This is essentially how I learned Spanish. You have got to read literature because that is the only way to get enough complex input to make things feel natural.

Literature is also easier to read because the authors have so polished their use of language and are so highly aware of what they are doing with it. If your ultimate goal is to know how to read legal contracts or something like that, it's reading literature that will get you there the most efficiently.

Yes. We need to make this case. Even an unoriginal novelist (but with limpid prose and great characters) like Elena Ferrante has made it easy for me to learn more Italian.
